November Meeting GEHA
representative Kristine Scott is scheduled to speak at our November
11th meeting.
October Meeting Members
heard David Goodrum speak about Angel Food Ministries. Members
voted to support the Dues Referendum. All members are encouraged
to attend the 25th Anniversary of the Chapter and membership drive
scheduled for Saturday October 17th.
September Meeting Members enjoyed hearing Jon &
Evelyn Eiche speak on Rotary International efforts to help
eliminate Polio.
August Meeting Our Legislative Chair
was unable to arrange a meeting with Congressman Pete Olson for
Advocacy month.
The Congressman is one of 137 that recently voted to cut your benefits
by $10 billion.
July Meeting No
business was acted on at the meeting. President Dave Bloomer
encouraged members to study the Dues Referendum that will be coming to
a vote in the Fall and to consider attending the Region VI Seminar Sept
14-17 in Tyler, Texas. Our speaker gave a history of the American
Flag and some of the protocol involved with the flag.
June Meeting Members
were entertained by child musicians Brendon and Vanessa Mac. The
Region VI seminar will be in Tyler Texas September 14-17th.
Members were encouraged to consider attending. The month of
August is Advocacy Month and members were encouraged to contact their
representative and Senators about legislative issues NARFE
supports. A toll free number is available on the TFC website on
the National Legislation page. Members were also encouraged to
donate to NARFE PAC to support those who support NARFE legislative
goals.
May Meeting The
May meeting featured speaker Ron Norsworthy speaking on Avoiding Elder
Financial Abuse. Members were informed of the current Dues
Withholding program and voted not to waive the chapter's portion.
The Dues Referendum was also discussed and members were advised where
to find information on the dues referendum (see TFC Website or national
website).
April Meeting The
April Meeting new member Violet Pitts gave a presentation about her
career and overseas assignments while working for the FBI.
President Dave Bloomer presented to Chpter Historian Wilda Simms the
Certificate of 25 years as a Chapter which was presented to the Chapter
at the District 7 Convention. Our 25th Anniversary is this
Fall. The President also presented information on each of the
resolutions to be presented at the 2009 TFC Convention April
24-27th.
March Meeting President
Dave Bloomer Presented Officers with officer pins to wear during their
term of office and present to their successor when they leave
office. A pin showing their past office will then be presented to
them. Members were reminded to contact their legislators about
NARFE legislative goals as the National Legislative Training Conference
has just completed and members at that conference visited Senators and
Congressman on capitol hill. Members should also let their
Senators and Congressman hear from them. Remember to use phone or
email to contact the Washington DC offices or write to local District
Offices as mail sent to Washington DC is still screened and takes a
long time to arrive. It was announced new NARFE PAC pins are
available. The Legislative Chair will order pins and have them at
future meetings. It is important that we support NARFE-PAC for
the upcoming
Congressional election. The Treasurer was advised to submit the
paperwork to obtain NARFE's offer of insurance for the chapter.
February
Meeting The
District 7 Convention will be hosted by Chapter 828 and will be on
March 19th. Preregistration was requested by the host
chapter. Chapter 2030 will have 7 members attend. Delegates
to the TFC convention, Hazel Hicks and Al Luna, were elected.
President Dave Bloomer and Frances Grimes will attend as at large
delegates due to their TFC positions. An Audit committee of
Hester Bain and Phil Miller will report to the President on their
review of the Treasury accounts.
January Meeting President
Dave Bloomer announced that TFC President Jerome Smith would be
attending the Houston Association of Chapters meeting on January 28th
to discuss the possibility of Houston Area Chapters hosting the 2001
TFC Convention. Dave also announced the District 7 Convention
hosted by Chapter 828 will be on March 19th from 9 AM to 3PM. A

Anyone wishing to attend the NARFE National Legislative Training Course
should be aware the registration deadline is February 10th.
The Texas Federation Convention will be held April 24 -27, 2009 in San
Antonio, Texas. Information on registration, hotel reservations
and other details such as banquets and riverboat rides are on the TFC
Convention page of the Association website http://www.narfehouston.org Members
were reminded to save pull tabs from aluminum soft drink cans to bring
to our meetings and the joint chapter collection will be taken to the
Texas Federation Convention to add to those saved by other chapters to
contribute for the benefit of Ronald McDonald Houses.
