Meeting July Meeting A local
chiropractor spoke to the members. Members were informed the
Greater Houston Council newsletter was being mailed to members either
by mail or by email. No new business was acted upon. At the
next meeting we will have a speaker on Alzheimer's and will hold a
raffle to benefit the NARFE Alzheimer's Fund.
June Meeting
A police officer from Richmond Police spoke to the
members. Members were informed of a survey by a
group supporting Social Security reforms. The goals of the group
are supported by NARFE and the CARE effort. Members shouldadvise
that they support the group through NARFE PAC.
May Meeting Diane
Ware Fort Bend Museum Association spoke to members about the history of
the Dew House, its renovation and its planned development into a
museum. Delegates and alternates to the National Convention were
elected. Members voted to continue holding meetings at the Fort
Bend Country Club in view of the new restaurant being available. April Meeting
Members attended the District 7 Convention and no chapter
meeting was held.
March
Meeting The
March meeting was held at Yucatan Mexican Restaurant in Richmond. Members
are encouraged to continue bringing tabs from pull tab cans to be
collected in support of Ronald McDonald House. The speaker was
Steve Thomas , AARP Income Tax Advisor. One member volunteered to
help as an advisor. Special guests at the March meeting were
family members of Fletcher Morgan who recently passed away. The
family was presented with the Distinguished Member Certificate,
membership card and pin that were to have been present to Fletcher at
the 25th Anniversary Reception. Members voted to contribute to
the Alzheimer fund in memory of both Fletcher Morgan and Adliline
Sorrells who also passed away recently. Members registered and
paid the lunch fee to attend the District 7 Conference in
Bellville. Anyone who did not sign up and wants to attend should
consult the invitation letter and make their arrangements to pay the
lunch fee to Chapter 1430 by the deadline of April 10th. Our May
meeting will be at the Flying Pig Cafe at Fort Bend Country Club.
A decision on our meeting place is being deferred until the May
meeting. The bill for NARFE Chapter insurance was turned
over to the Treasurer for payment. Members were reminded of 1.
the planning meeting for the 2011 TFC Convention in Galveston to be
held at 2:00PM March 17th following the Chapter 1376 meeting at Ryan's
Steakhouse on Hwy 6 just south of Bellaire, 2. the District 7
Convention in Bellville on April 14th, and 3. that there will be no
Chapter meeting in April due to the District Convention and our next
meeting will be May 12th at the Fort Bend Country Club, Flying Pig Cafe.
February Meeting
The February meeting was held at the Another Time Soda
Fountain in Rosenberg, Texas. We have been informed that Chapter
1184 in Bay City will be closing and we will gain its remaining
members. Their Treasury is under $20 and will probably be
depleted by sending the last letter advising members of the closing and
transfer of their membership to Chapter 2030 or a chapter of their
choice. Members were informed Past President Adeline Sorrells
passed away and given the funeral plans. New member Helen
Mata shared her life experiences as an educator with the members.
January Meeting
The January meeting was held at the Bamboo Village in
Richmond, Texas. It was announced that the National Dues
Referendum failed by a very narrow margin. It was announced
that the Greater Houston Council meetings would be held in the next two
years only as needed at the call of the President while planning
meetings for the 2011 TFC Convention were occupying the efforts of
member chapters. A nominating committee for 2011 Officers was
appointed. The next meeting will be at the Another Time Soda
Fountain in Rosenberg February 10t at 10:30AM. Members were also
informed of the 2:00PM January 20th meeting for planning the 2011
TFC Convention in Galveston to be held at Ryan's Steakhouse on Hwy 6
just south of Bellaire Blvd following the Chapter 1375 meeting at noon.
